a) Calculation of $x$. The vertex of equilateral triangle on the side 6 is at the height $h = \dfrac{6\sqrt{3}}{2} = 3\sqrt{3}$ of the base, that is, $6 - h$ on the top side of the square and 3 on the left side. Then $x^2 = 3^2 + (6 - 3\sqrt{3})^2$, whence $x = 6\sqrt{2 - \sqrt{3}} = 3(\sqrt{6} - \sqrt{2})$.
a) Calculation of $y$. In the triangle with an angle of 30°: $\operatorname{tg}30^{\circ} = \dfrac{a}{6 - a}$, that is, $\dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{3} = \dfrac{a}{6 - a}$, therefore $a = 3(\sqrt{3} - 1)$. As $\operatorname{sen}45^{\circ} = \dfrac{a}{y}$, comes $y = a\sqrt{2} = 3(\sqrt{6} - \sqrt{2})$.
b) With the measurements in the figure, $\operatorname{tg}\theta = \dfrac{3}{6 + 3\sqrt{3}} = \dfrac{1}{2 + \sqrt{3}}$ and $\operatorname{tg}\theta = \dfrac{6 - a}{a}$; logo $a = 3 + \sqrt{3}$. So $\operatorname{sen}45^{\circ} = \dfrac{a}{x}$ gives $x = 3\sqrt{2} + \sqrt{6}$.
Ver resposta
a) $x = y = 3(\sqrt{6} - \sqrt{2})$ · b) $x = 3\sqrt{2} + \sqrt{6}$
