straight segment
- define segment and ray based on the notion “being between”;
- classify pairs of segments as consecutive, collinear and adjacent;
- compare, add and measure segments;
- work with the midpoint and the distance between two points.
In the previous chapter, the straight line appeared as a primitive and unlimited entity. Now let’s cut out pieces of it: the segment, which has two ends, and the semi-straight, which has one origin and continues endlessly in one direction. For this we need another primitive notion: being between.
