In pure mathematics what we need to learn is to prove what is proposed. Every mathematician is like Saint Thomas, that is, we have to see it to believe it. However, there is a difference between proving and convincing. What we basically use are writing techniques, more precisely, essay writing (or logical mathematical essay). Any argument that is given to us, when that argument holds water, is usually that this person is trying to convince us that it is true.
